When I first began my career, I never imagined that one day I would be sitting on the other side of the interview table, assessing candidates for roles ranging from junior developers to senior engineering managers. This journey as an interviewer has been enlightening, challenging, and rewarding. I’ve learned that interviewing is not just about evaluating skills — it’s about understanding people, their motivations, and their potential to thrive in a given environment.

1. The Art of Asking the Right Questions

One of the first things I realized was the importance of crafting the right questions. A well-thought-out question can reveal much more than technical proficiency; it can shed light on a candidate’s problem-solving approach, thought process, and even their ability to stay calm under pressure. For instance, instead of asking direct technical questions, I often present real-world scenarios that candidates might face in the role. This not only tests their knowledge but also their adaptability and creativity.
